Zhejiang enterprise, which is reducing carbon while producing hydrogen, has become a heavyweight player in the hydrogen energy industry in the Yangtze River Delta
2023-12-21

Hydrogen energy is a key area for the development of new energy. In the Yangtze River Delta region, the hydrogen energy camp has welcomed a heavyweight player - "STL".

With the continuous production of light hydrocarbon integration projects, the industrial by-product hydrogen production of STL is expected to reach 420000 tons/year, becoming a major hydrogen energy supplier in East China. Due to the fact that these hydrogen gases are by-products of the dehydrogenation of light raw materials such as ethane and propane, approximately 10 million tons of carbon dioxide can be reduced in the production and preparation process.

The third phase of Satellite Energy is a new productivity project of STL in Dushan Port, Pinghu City, with a total investment of 10.15 billion yuan and a land area of approximately 485 acres. After the project is operational, it is expected to produce 40000 tons of hydrogen, 900000 tons of propylene, 800000 tons of polyols, and 80000 tons of neopentyl glycol annually. It will create a green and low-carbon new material industry chain, form an industrial cluster, with an annual output value of 15.6 billion yuan and an annual tax revenue of over 1 billion yuan.

In fact, STL is promoting multiple similar projects nationwide and is constantly planning new projects. For example, on November 30th, STL and SKGC signed a supplementary agreement on the second phase project of Sino Korean Kerui New Materials (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd., officially launching the construction and operation of a new EAA device with an annual production scale of 50000 tons.

EAA is a high-end chemical new material applied in fields such as new energy, power batteries, and sterile packaging. The market demand is growing rapidly, but due to extremely high technological barriers, China's EAA supply is completely dependent on imports. Through cooperation with SKGC, STL can leverage its resource advantages in ethylene, acrylic acid, and other areas, and enter the high value-added new materials field downstream of the industrial chain.

The "4R Green and Low Carbon Chemical Industry Model" created by STL has achieved carbon reduction throughout the entire industry chain, transforming the chemical industry from a carbon emitter to a "green" low-carbon industry. At the end of November, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China released the "2023 Green Manufacturing List", and three subsidiary enterprises of STL were also selected as national green factories, becoming the highest level "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" benchmark demonstration enterprises in the national industrial field.

In addition, STL is actively promoting the comprehensive utilization of hydrogen energy, such as planning hydrogen energy shuttle buses, hydrogen energy storage and other hydrogen energy utilization demonstration projects within the park. This provides industrial enterprises with by-product hydrogen to replace traditional energy for production and daily life, and planning the development of hydrogen based chemicals, such as electronic grade hydrogen peroxide, synthetic ammonia, and green methanol, etc. By replacing fossil fuels with hydrogen energy, STL theoretically can drive downstream carbon dioxide emissions reduction of about 4.6 million tons per year in the industrial chain.

In July of this year, STL signed an agreement with the Jiaxing Municipal Government to invest 2 billion yuan in building a global research and development center in the Jiaxing National Economic Development Zone, and to continue investing 8 billion yuan in research and development projects over the next 5 years, focusing on four major fields: catalysts, new energy materials, polymer new materials, and functional chemicals. The plan is to have over 2000 research and development personnel, becoming a first-class in the industry, being an influential future research and development center headquarters both domestically and internationally, as well as an industrial innovation platform that integrates functions such as entrepreneurship incubation, research and development, and achievement promotion.
